CLINICAL NURSE MANAGER III (band 6/7 equivalent)

KCR in affiliation with Bon Secours Hospital, Dublin, are currently looking to recruit a Clinical Nurse Manager (band 6/7 equivalent) to work in the largest & busiest private endoscopy unit in Ireland. The unit provides a wide range of high quality diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopic procedure.

THE POSITION

You will be pivotal to contribute too and support patient flow, access, quality and team enhancement within the Endoscopy Unit.  You will be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the Unit providing a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff ensuring the efficient management of human and fiscal resources at all times. 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The post holder is assigned to manage the Endoscopy Unit at Bon Secours Dublin.  The role of the Clinical Nurse Manager III is pivotal to the co-ordination and management of the services and resources within the department and across the hospital.  The Clinical Nurse Manager III shows a capacity to adopt a leadership stance, make an impact, and influences, energises and inspires others in the organisation. 

 

The key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Management of the Endoscopy Unit ensuring an effective, efficient and quality care service.
  • Develop and implement a strategy to ensure full utilization and operational efficiency of three Endoscopy Rooms i.e. facility to provide Saturday lists and ensure maximum usage during leave period.
  • Efficient and effective management of human and fiscal resources according to patient’s needs and service budget.
  • Planning service and nursing innovations and developments. 
  • Promotion of high levels of effective communication throughout the Endoscopy Unit, between all wards and departments, medical and nursing staff, clinical support service staff, finance and administrative staff within the hospital.
  • Provide specialist nursing advice and support for Clinical Nurse Managers, Clinical Nurse Specialists and allied staff. 
  • Implement and monitor JCI, GRS and JAG standards in collaboration with the Endoscopy Clinical Lead and the Quality and Patient Safety Department.
  • Analysis of demand and capacity to ensure the Endoscopy Unit is compliant with accreditation related targets (JAG/JCI).
  • Responsibility for preparation and co-ordination of accreditation submissions and requirements within deadlines assigned by accreditation body.
  • Support continuous quality improvement working with the Hospital Management team to ensure safety and quality are central to the delivery of services within the Endoscopy Unit ensuring a fully patient focused and centred service. 
  • Implement quality standards and participate with the assessment and evaluation of quality standards and the formalisation and updating of hospital policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Address and review complaints and incidents in a timely manner and develop action plans as appropriate. 
  • Measure and monitor patient satisfaction within the Endoscopy Unit. 
  • Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the service and introduce quality improvement initiatives where appropriate
  • Provide the Assistant Director of Nursing/Director of Nursing with regular reports/updates regarding optimal utilisation plans e.g. staffing, resources, activity, technology etc.
  • Participate in hospital performance and committees relevant to the Endoscopy service. 
  • Ensures effective working relationships exist/developed with other Hospital Departments and Consultants.
  • Actively pursue the review, development and implementation of new and/or upgrading of information systems appropriate to the Endoscopy Unit in consultation with IT Department. 
  • In close liaison with the Director of Nursing, Technical Services Manager and Clinical Engineer manage the control and maintenance of equipment, request of Capex, asset verification. 
  • Ensure that equipment is handled correctly and maintained in a safe working order, reporting any defects to the Technical Services Department.
  • Prepare business plans as required to support the purchasing of equipment and ensure adherence to the Hospital procurement policy.
  • Recommend and promote cost control initiatives wherever necessary within the Endoscopy Unit. 
  • The Clinical Nurse Manager III must adhere to Code of Professional Practice and Behaviours for Registered Nurses.
  • Communicates effectively in the English language, both written, and spoken as appropriate to job requirements. 

 

Human Resource Management 

  • Ensure the highest calibre staff are recruited to and retained within the Endoscopy Unit. 
  • Use Probation Assessment and/or Performance Review & Development (PRD), as appropriate, to monitor staff performance and identify department and individual objectives.
  • Monitor absenteeism, staff turnover and staff satisfaction surveys . 
  • Manage all leave in accordance with Hospital Policy taking account of unit needs at all times
  • Ensure that all mandatory training is undertaken to a satisfactory level and promote and facilitate staff training and development within the Endoscopy Unit. 
  • Create and maintain an environment conducive to teaching and training of nurses and health care professionals and promote and affect a responsible and accountable culture amongst staff.    
  • Supervise administration staff. 

 

General Management

  • Effectively work with Consultants to promote efficient unit utilization, and to provide specialist knowledge, expertise and care in liaison with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain awareness within the speciality of current developments in Endoscopy
  • Show leadership by achieving high morale based on professional performance, high quality organisational and communication skills. 
  • Actively participate in change and development projects that affect the hospital within the scope and competencies of the Endoscopy Manager 
  • Manage stock control of consumables and pharmacy items in consultation with the Pharmacy Manager and Supplies Manager.
  • Ensure the Infection Prevention & Control and Health & Safety policies and procedures are adhered to and audited on a regular basis .
  • Liaise with the hospital decontamination lead to ensure implementation of standards and recommended practices are monitored and maintained. 
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time. 

 

 

THE LOCATION

Bon Secours Hospital is based in Glasnevin, northside of Dublin. Located close to the M50 and on a well serviced bus route approx. 2.5 miles from Dublin City Centre. The hospital is serviced by bus number 83 from Dublin's city centre.  Bus numbers 9 and 4 go via Mobhi Road, which is a short walk away.

 CRITERIA?

  • Be a RN on the current NMBI Live Register
  • Have 2 years Management experience at CNM II level in the past 4 years
  • Have a minimum of 5 years post registration experience in the acute hospital setting within the last 9 years
  • Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in Endoscopy or in Theatre/GI/Medical Nursing
  • Have excellent Leadership and change management experience and skills
  • Have sound business acumen to assist in the development of the Endoscopy Service
  • Possess Excellent IT skills
