Permanent Full-time – Cork


Fairfield Nursing Home currently has 49 beds with plans to develop an additional 20 beds over the next 5 years. There are two homes in the group one in Drimoleague and the other in Clonakilty. Fairfield Nursing Home is recognised as a specialised dementia care centre which provides emotional care, see the website here


The role of the Director of Nursing is to provide nursing leadership and expertise and contribute to the strategic development and direction of the nursing home – and its overall vision.  Reporting to the Proprietor, the successful candidate will work closely with two Assistant Directors of Nursing along with the rest of the excellent nursing home Team of staff to provide an efficient, effective patient-focused service.

Fairfield have a different approach to Dementia Care. They have moved from institutionalised task based care lacking real emotional connection to a model of care where the emotional needs of the residents is at the center of how they approach their day. In 2013 they embarked on a year long training and educational programme involving Dr. David Sheard ( ) and his company Dementia Care Matters. His approach has revolutionised how the residents live their lives in Fairfield.


  • Have at least 7 years post registration experience, with 3 years nursing management experience at a minimum of CNM 3 level
  • Hold a minimum of a  level 9 (QQI)post graduate qualification in health care or a management related field
  • Have evidence of recent post registration/education learning and development
  • Demonstrate excellent knowledge of the Health Act (2007) Care and Welfare of Residents in Designated Centres for Older Persons and Regulations
  • Show an understanding of the issues & practices within nursing and the wider health care sector
  • Have proven experience in facilitating change and demonstrating clinical credibility and strong leadership
  • Meet HIQA standard regarding Person In Charge (PIC) -  see link

  • 39 Hours per week
